Graphite Machining, Inc. was founded in 1973 in the metro Detroit, Michigan, area. As the demand for GMI's machined and non-machined graphite increased, GMI outgrew its facility in Detroit and relocated to Metamora, Michigan, in 1988. The company continued to grow, and again needed to expand. In 1997, a new addition was added to the Metamora facility. With this new addition also came additional CNC and sawing equipment. Continued growth required a second facility in Topton, Pennsylvania, in February 2000. With the addition of Topton, GMI now has over 40,000 square feet of manufacturing space. GMI is one of the major graphite machining companies in North America.
